What do those beauty product ingredients actually do?

Beauty, General, Health No Comments »

Just a quick blog to let you all know what those ingredients actually do…

Collagen: Collagen is a hydrating ingredient. Applied to the surface of your skin, it’s a great moisturiser, but it doesn’t stimulate your skin’s underlying natural collagen production.

Glycolic: Glycolic acid is a sugar cane derivative, shown to be highly effective at resurfacing and renewing the skin by chemically dissolving dead cells and lifting them off the skin’s surface.

Hydroxy acids: Hydroxy acids are fantastic for exfoliating. They come in several different strengths: mild microfoliants for sensitive skin; scrubs that force dead skin cells to be lifted; peels containing the enzymes bromalein and papain, which dissolve dead skin cells and are ideal for twenty-something skin; and exfoliants, such as glycolic and salicylic acid.

Peptides: Peptides are amino acids linked together. In other words, they’re the super ingredients that boost collagen production to keep skin youthful and supple.

Salicylic acid: Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid, found in aspirin and natural sources such as willow bark and sweet birch. Proven to be as effective as glycolic acid in the long term, but less aggressive and drying. Ideal for fighting spots.

 Hope this helps.

Who said romance was dead?!?

Hitting the catwalks for Spring/Summer 2008 is the romantic look…again! But is it the same as it is every year…floral and floaty??

Im pleased to say its not.  This season shows a more grown up version of what we have seen in the past.  Sonia Rykiel set high standard on the Runways of New York.  Check out the soft silk material, sheer layers, pale pastel tones-this is an ultra feminine look set to cascade down the high street!

Of course if this look is far too delicate, toughen it up with some hardcore accessories.  Try a leather belt or a pair of patent platforms.  Add a cashmere sweater over a ruffled dress with a pair of ribbed tights and head straight from winter into spring!  The best cashmere sweaters at the best prices can be found at Marks and Spencer.

For those of you that can’t afford the the catwalk romantic look then here’s a couple of the highstreets best buys!

This gorgous 100% silk blouse is from Miss Selfridge and is only £40.00!! Snap one up before they all sell out!!

The above chiffon blouse is from Topshop and is another bargain at only £35.00!  This is 100% romantic, but make the look a bit more edgy by wearing this gorgous top with a pair of skinny jeans and patent platforms!

“The” colour for January 2008

The trend for eyes this season has to smokey purple.  My motto is the more the merrier, so I love this look!

Purple is great for bringing out blue eyes and looks fab on any skin tone.

This look was shown by Valentine and is very subtle and pretty with rosey cheeks and pink lips.  A great day time look.

I love this dramatic smokey look, and should be worn more on a night out.  It can be easily re-created using some of MAC’s fantastic products.  Start by lightly covering all of the eye lid and socket with “Nocturnelle” also lining underneath the eye.  Be a bit more heavy handed towards the corner of the eye, building up a strong colour.  To finish the look off, apply Violet MAC Pigment to the corner-middle of the eye and the same underneath.

I love love love MAC pigment as they come in so many colours and textures and last for so long as you only need the smallest amount!  It does not streak or crease and blends so well!

So don’t be scared as you can’t go wrong with this look, just be brave and experiment to find the look which best suits you!

The new “it” shoe - Louboutin does it again!

Christian Louboutin’s patent lace-ups have landed, and all the A-List have got them!

Lace up shoes are a fab alternative to ankle boots-they’re more flattering as they don’t cut your legs off.  Wear them with black tights or skinny trousers to make your legs look extra long!
They are so comfy, and can take you from the office to the dancefloor!  Add a leather jacket for a rock look, or go girly in a pretty dress-but always wear opaques!
Don’t worry there are so many cheaper versions on the high street.  Miss selfridge, Office and Dorothy Perkins do the best!
